Looking for a Digital Campaigning and Communications Officer

Looking for a Digital Campaigning and Communications Officer

I’m inviting applications for a Canberra-based digital campaigning and communications officer.

I have a pretty broad range of ways I engage on policy issues, from op-eds and interviews to social media, tele townhalls, podcasts, and public events.

My digital campaigning and communications officer will help me and my team to engage in the digital space using a range of media and communication tools: social media, website, telephone townhalls, podcasts, and public events.

They will assist my media adviser to draft and coordinate material for a range of media. This might involve crafting content for social media, creating eye-catching graphics, editing and distributing video content, and working with the wider Labor team on digital and other broadcast opportunities to communicate directly with Australians.

As Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury and the Member for Fenner, the issues that I engage on range from economic inequality to assisting local Canberrans with government services. An appreciation for economics, an interest in community-building and a love of Canberra are definite pluses.

This is a new role in the office and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to craft the position to suit their skills and interests, in conjunction with the media advisor and the electorate office manager. As the position will be mainly located in the electorate office, the successful applicant will also work with other electorate office team members to assist constituents as required. It will help to have a positive outlook on helping others.

Among the attributes that would be desirable are:

  • Graphic design;
  • Copy writing;
  • Campaigning skills;
  • Media and social media skills;
  • Familiarity with major and emerging platforms and tools for digital communication;
  • Understanding of the political landscape;
  • Customer or client service.

As in all walks of life, it always helps to surround yourself with people who can teach you something. So if you write better sentences than me, are wittier than me, know the media better than me, or can communicate bold ideas better than me, then I want to hear from you.

Depending on experience, the salary range is $65,785 - $69,646 (full-time equivalent). An optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work, and an employer contribution of 15.4% superannuation will be payable.

The position will be located in the Gungahlin electorate office 3-4 days per week, with one day per week located in Parliament House. Ideally, we are seeking someone to work a 4-day week, but we are open to greater or fewer days for the right candidate, or a job share arrangement.

Women and people from culturally and linguistically diverse groups tend to be underrepresented, and so are particularly encouraged to apply for this position.

If you're interested, please send a CV with a covering email to [email protected]. Applications close at midnight on Sunday 19 February, 2023.
