HELPING ALL CANBERRANS HAVE A CHRISTMAS
Today I was delighted to join UnitingCare Kippax to launch their 2015 Christmas gift drive.
The Let’s Give Everyone a Christmas initiative collects donations of gifts and hampers for Canberra families that are doing it tough and might otherwise miss out on a merry Christmas.
Although the ACT sits above the Australian average on measures of wealth and income, there are serious pockets of disadvantage in our community.
Across Australia, one in 20 families cannot afford Christmas presents for families and friends.
One of the things that makes me so proud to represent the Northside is the generosity Canberrans show in reaching out to those in need. In 2014, UnitingCare’s drive collected over $8000 worth of donations.
I’d encourage everyone who can do so to participate in this year’s appeal to ensure it is even bigger.
Donations can be made through www.kippax.org.au or in person at the Kippax Community Centre on the corner of Hardwick Cres and Luke St, Holt.
