Are Belconnen delays a sign of more pain on the way? - Media Release

ARE BELCONNEN DELAYS A SIGN OF MORE PAIN ON THE WAY?

The Abbott Government has let another week go by without word on the future of the Department of Immigration in Belconnen.

Instead of announcing a decision on this drawn-out procurement process, this week Public Service Minister Eric Abetz floated the idea of slashing the Australian Public Service even further.

In response to questions about how the Abbott Government might address bracket creep in the Budget, Mr Abetz suggested some further ‘streamlining’ of the public service. We all know that this is code for more cuts.

Is the Abbott Government holding off making a decision about the Department of Immigration’s future because it knows more cuts and office consolidations are on the way?

In light of Mr Abetz’s comments this week, Canberrans will rightly be worried that the ongoing delay with this project is a sign of more public service pain to come.
