Reconnected
Andrew Leigh's "Reconnected" social capital consultations.
As Shadow Minister for Charities and Not-for-Profits, I’ve been working with the community sector to identify and share innovative ideas for building social capital and increasing community engagement.
I’ve been hosting a series of discussions to hear from participants in the community and not-for-profit sectors who are bucking this trend and want to share their experiences.
IF YOU'RE IN THE NOWRA REGION, RSVP HERE TO JOIN ME ON 6 SEPTEMBER AT SHOALHAVEN LIBRARY.
I was elected to Parliament in 2010. In the prior decades, Australians became less likely to join community organisations, trade unions and political parties, less likely to attend church, and less likely to know our neighbours.
Over the years I’ve been in parliament, I’ve met hundreds of passionate social entrepreneurs, and hoped that this trend might reverse. But if anything, new data suggest that the drop is continuing.
I know there is great new work being done by organisations that are prioritising innovation, but I also hear again and again that many organisations don’t have time to try out new approaches.
