NO JOY FOR BELCONNEN IN WEEK OF GOVERNMENT GAFFES

While the Abbott Government has spent the week insulting first homebuyers and damaging confidence in the renewable energy sector, the Belconnen community has continued its long wait for news about the Department of Immigration move.

It has now been 16 weeks since the government’s own deadline for announcing a decision on Immigration’s future expired.

In that time the Abbott Government has handed down a second unfair budget, launched a sustained attack on Australia’s Human Rights Commissioner, misled Parliament about national security matters and voted against its own small business package.

But it has not found the time or empathy to end the uncertainty by making an announcement about whether the department will be staying in Belconnen.

Over 4,000 Immigration workers and hundreds more local business owners are anxiously waiting for word on this.

Just for once the Abbott Liberals needs to act like the ‘grown up government’ they promised to be and reveal their decision about the Department of Immigration’s future.
