Fenner Lecture 2017: Prof Carola Vinuesa on Chasing the Cure – Adventures in Genetics

As the Federal Member for Fenner, I host an annual ‘Fenner Lecture’ to highlight the value of science (and to celebrate the fact that our electorate was named after one of Australia's best scientists, Frank Fenner).

Last year, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki ranged widely across many fields, this year the world-renowned immunologist Professor Carola Vinuesa will focus in on the advances being made in the fields of immunology and genetic engineering.

Professor Vinuesa will discuss the progress human genome sequencing and gene editing have allowed in diagnosing and treating previously obscure and intractable diseases, and some of the challenges this progress raises.
