Do you have to drink each time you mention the Beveridge Curve?

I copped some gentle flack yesterday for asking the RBA Governor about the Beveridge Curve. Here’s an illustration of the data that concerned me (thanks to Scott Kompo-Harms at the Parliamentary Library for compiling it).

    Hi Andrew,
A couple of questions about this chart
    1) Was this compiled using ABS 6354.0? If so, does the series break in May 2008-November 2009 offer a potential explanation for the apparent rightward shift?
    2) Is it possible for you to upload the .XLS file that this graph is based on?
    Thanks

How did he calculate the vacancy rate?

The ANZ vacancies series suggests that vacancies have risen most strongly in WA. (They only seem to have newspaper ads on a state basis, rather than newspaper plus internet.) Presumbly people are slower to move all the way to the west to fill a vacancy than up or down the east coast. Perhaps this could contribute toward the shift to the right.
