Speech to ANU Crawford School Public Policy Week
On 20 July, I spoke to 60 ‘rising star’ academics at the ANU Crawford School’s Policy Priorities Luncheon. The theme of the session was: what is government NOT thinking about in public policy priorities over the next decade that it should be thinking about?
Hi,
Despite the fact that I despair of Labor’s seeming determination to become a semi-directionless second-class Liberal party, your insightful speech just won back my vote from the Greens. We need more politicians with the ability to acknowledge uncertainty and think about things in a way that goes beyond shallow populism. Having actual knowledge of the concept of blacks swans is also a huge plus in my book! I am not aware that knowledge of this concept is widespread – but it certainly should be.
If the Labor party as a whole became more like you sound to be, I would be a great deal more confident of our country’s future.
