Andrew's Portfolios

Shadow Assistant Treasurer
As the Shadow Assistant Treasurer my role is to hold the government’s revenue raising and expenditure measurements to account and also develop Labor’s own economic policy.

Australians understand that tax policy needs to balance fairness and efficiency, and deliver budget repair whilst providing services such as health and education that we need. In an era of growing inequality, our policies ensure the Australian Taxation Office is appropriately resourced and to make sure multinational entities pay their fair share.

Shadow Minister for Competition and Productivity
As the Shadow Minister for Competition and Productivity my role is to ensure the Australian market remains competitive, which in turn means Australian consumers have greater choice and benefits.

Australian competition policy needs to work for all Australians, provide the settings for genuine businesses to flourish whilst protecting consumers and the economy. This means giving the competition watchdog (the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) more teeth, and levelling the playing field for small businesses, cooperatives and mutual enterprises.

Shadow Minister for Trade in Services
As the Shadow Minister for Trade in Services I’m responsible for ensuring that trade policy and international negotiations remain under the close level of scrutiny required to ensure open trade and fair market conditions.

At 22% of Australian trade, services is a dynamic and growing sector of the economy. We will ensure trade agreements, such as the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA), work in Australian interests.

Shadow Minister for Charities and Not-for-Profits
As the Shadow Minister for Charities and Not-for-Profits my role is to ensure that the sector has the political and policy-making support that is needed to continue it’s vital work.

The contribution the sector makes to Australia is huge, in 2010 it was estimated that there were 600 000 not-for-profits in Australia including charities which employ one million people and contributes billions to the economy. Labor established the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission to reduce red tape and create nationally consistent oversight to the sector and I will work to ensure that legacy is protected.
